When the past feels present
You may understand what happened and still feel on edge, shut down, or pulled between wanting change and wanting to protect yourself. Together, we can explore these responses with curiosity and compassion. My approach combines EMDR with parts-informed strategies when appropriate, making room for the different feelings and needs that arise during therapy.
Understanding EMDR and Parts Work
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a structured psychotherapy used to treat trauma and PTSD. Parts work offers a way to explore different aspects of your experience, for example, a part that pushes you to keep going and another that feels exhausted or afraid.
When appropriate, I integrate parts-informed strategies into EMDR to help us understand protective responses, prepare for memory processing, and respond to hesitation with care.
What to Expect in EMDR Therapy
Connect and Understand
We’ll explore your history, goals, and responses, including feelings of both readiness and hesitation, and consider whether EMDR fits your needs.
Prepare and Build Resources
We’ll develop coping resources and explore what helps you feel supported. Parts-informed strategies may help us understand responses that need attention before processing begins.
Process and Reflect
When you’re ready, we’ll work with selected memories, make time for closure, and review your responses and progress throughout treatment.
